Lauritz Gene Dahlby
Lauritz Gene Dahlby was born May 3, 1941 at the Kingland Hospital in Lake Mills, IA.
He passed away March 23, 2018 after suffering a heart attack.
After graduation in 1959 from Lake Mills High School he drove truck for a short time before enlisting in the U.S. Army and serving three years.
He made his home in Wyoming and Colorado for approximately forty years and retired from over the road trucking with 4.6 million miles.
Gene then moved back to the Dahlby family farm in 2000 eventually moving to his home south of Emmons, MN for four years and then to Nashua, IA two years ago.
Gene was very active in the Emmons, MN American Legion having served as commander for three years and helping to grow the Legion kitchen. This meant so much to him.
He is a member of Silver Lake Lutheran church and was an active member of various boards and also One In Christ council.
There wasn't a person that he didn't have a kind word and a smile for. He loved to visit!
Gene is survived by his wife Marilee, his mother Grace Dahlby and brother Edward Dahlby. Five daughters and their families who meant the world to him: Candi and Gerald Hawkins, Staci and Kevin Case,Kelly and Kent Balog, Colleen and Eric Pratt, Sonia Dahlby. Three stepsons and families : Jay and Amy Roeder, Todd Roeder and Dave Hoppe, Mitch and Mandy Roeder.
Services will be held Saturday, March 31, 2018 at 2:30p.m. at the Silver Lake Lutheran Church rural Northwood with Pastor Randy Baldwin officiating. The Emmons American Legion will present the Honor Guard. Inurnment will be at a later date.
Memorials in lieu of flowers may be directed to the Emmons, MN American Legion kitchen project or to the family.
