Evelyn Mae Nading

The world lost a beautiful soul on Thursday, March 22, 2018.

Evelyn Mae Nading was born in Clayton County to Lester and Vanitta (McDowell) Minkler on July 7, 1927. Evelyn spent most of her childhood on her Grandpa and Grandma McDowell's farm just outside of Mederville, Iowa.

Evelyn married Donald S. Nading on the 10th of December, 1946. During their life together they lived in many towns in Iowa: Alburnett, Cedar Rapids,Clayton Center and Mederville. Evelyn later moved to Elkader then to Strawberry Point. Her family moved her to Heritage Care Center in Cedar Rapids last fall.

Evelyn and Donald had one son, Allen D. Nading. She may have had only one son, but she had many children. She helped care for numerous nieces and nephews over the years.

After the loss of her loving husband, Donald, in 1983, she spent 25 years with her second love, Melvin Scott of Osbourne, Iowa, until his death in 2009.

Evelyn was full of energy and life, She will be remembered for her vast gardens and meticulous yards filled with an abundance of beautiful flowers, She will also be remembered for her good old country cooking and hugs.

Evelyn will be greatly missed by her loving family. Her son, Allen Nading, of Cedar Rapids; two granddaughters, Sarah Nading (Jon Plummer) of Hiawatha and Carmen Fowlkes (Kirt) of Cedar Rapids; four great-grandchildren, Shayne and Silvin Presley, both of Austin, Texas, Sammi Presley of Cleveland, Ohio, and Skyler Fowlkes of Cedar Rapids; two sisters, Lorene Deeds of Cedar rapids and Carol Strawn of Arlington; and one brother, Larry Hohmann of Cedar Rapids. She also has a great-great-grandson, Xander Presley, of Heath Ohio, who she so wanted to meet. Many other relatives and friends are saddened by her passing.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one brother and two sisters.

Evelyn's family will hold a private service this summer in Mederville when all is green and the flowers are in full bloom.
