Dennis Richard Warren

Dennis Richard Warren, 76, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, March 22, 2018, at St. Luke’s Hospital. He was born November 8, 1941, in Midland, MI; The youngest of 12 children born to the late Percy and Rose Warren. Dennis enlisted in the Air Force and served our country honorably from ’60 to ‘64 as an Admin Specialist. He also spent many of his shifts in Air Traffic Control. Dennis continued his public service record as a Sheriff’s Deputy from ’65 to ’68. Dennis continued his passion in 1970 as a Deputy Sheriff in Clinton County, MI. He then went on to graduate from Michigan State University in ‘72 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice. As of 1973, Dennis embarked on a long career first as the Director of 911 in Saginaw, MI-; Vancouver, WA; Springfield, MO; South Bay, CA; and Cedar Rapids, IA. Dennis would father three children and would go on to meet and spend over 20 years of his life with his partner Angela Alexander.

He was a respected and well-known individual within the communities he served and could easily strike up a comedic conversation with anyone. His honesty and reputation allowed him to forge relationships with individuals from all walks of life. After his retirement, he continued to meet with past colleagues and friends. Dennis noted on many occasions that he had lived a life without regret and that he had aspired to find a career in “…something interesting and which would benefit my fellow citizens,”. He spent his life the way he wanted. Just as in life, he passed the way he preferred: quickly and without complications. Self-reliance and mutual respect were key principles that he has passed on with an amount of sarcastic wit and intellect that would keep his audience laughing. Just as he would prefer, in his passing, we celebrate his life.

Dennis was survived by his three children, Scott Warren, Christina Warren, and Michelle Webb; their children, Ian and Preston Warren, Randall Rapp, Mason and Dylan Webb; and his siblings, Larry  Warren, Herriet Brady, and Margaret Williams.
