Shirley Ann (Waters) Nading Obituary  September 3, 1936 - January 14, 2018

Shirley died January 14th, 2018, at 81 years old,  in her sleep at Living Center East, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, after a long illness.

Shirley Ann Waters was born September 3, 1936 at her Great Grandmothers home in Marion, Iowa.  She was the daughter of James Milton and Lela Cowan Waters.  James worked as a brick layer and Lela was a homemaker.  She was the youngest of five siblings, three sisters: Esther Price, deceased, Slome (Carroll) Dougars, deceased, and Helen Nading, deceased, and two brothers, James Waters of Auburn, Iowa and Harry Waters of Lake City, Iowa.  She also had several half sisters.

The family moved to Lake City, Iowa when Shirley was three years old.  It was there that she began her school days at Lake City Elementary School.  After finishing fifth grade, her family moved back to Cedar Rapids where she attend Taylor School and Roosevelt School.

After moving back to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Shirley worked at the Railroad Depot selling magazines when she was fourteen years old.  She returned to live with her mother for a year before settling in Cedar Rapids Iowa and working at Bishop's Cafeteria.

Robert Nading Sr. introduced himself to Shirley when he was home on leave from the Air Force.  He told her he would be back to marry her when he was discharged from the service.  A promise he kept as they were married in February in 1953 at the Baptist Church on Ellis Blvd, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.  During the recession, her family did not have the money to take many trips but the ones they did take to Yellowstone and surrounding areas were very memorable.  They were divorced in 1979 after 24 years of marriage.

They had eight children, Robert Jr. of Rockford, Illinois, Mark Anthony of Aurora, Co: Deborah Jean, of Center Point, Iowa; Pamela of Utah, Cheryl of Rubio, Iowa; Lee, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Paul, deceased, Kerry of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.  She also had 8 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Shirley spent most of her life caring for her kids.  She worked at Coe College for twenty years where she also attended classes during the entire time of her employment.  She retired from Coe in 1999.  Her last year was spent in close contact with her daughter, Deborah, and lived in Center Point.  It was fun and time well spent enjoying each day.

She will be missed but is now with Robert Sr., her mother Lela, and her little boy Paul.  See you in Heaven, Mom.
