Lloyd E. Overton

Lloyd E. Overton

Lloyd, a loving husband, a great father, and a dear friend to many, passed away on January 22, 2018 in his own home surrounded by his family.

Lloyd was born March 4, 1927 in Pleasanton, Iowa. His parents were Harrison Isaac and Nona Zoe(Putman) Overton. Lloyd was preceded in death by his 3 sisters and 1 brother.

He attended grade school in Pleasanton until moving to Leon where he attended High School. His Junior year he answered the call to serve his country and joined the Navy. His time in the military was certainly not an easy task, but it allowed Lloyd the opportunity to see many parts of the world that few get to see and experience.

In 1950 he married the love of his life, Marilyn Myers. They spent the rest of their lives in Leon, raising their 3 boys. He worked at many different jobs in Leon, most notable were his almost 30 years with Hy-Vee and 10 years owning and operating a men's clothing store, (V&H) until retiring.  After retirement, Lloyd's favorite past times were yard and garden work, however, his true passion was traveling and spending time with his best friend, Marilyn.

Lloyd had many friends and was always there to give a helping hand to anyone that needed it.

Lloyd will be greatly missed by many. His memory will forever be honored by: his wife of 68 years, Marilyn;  his three sons: Kim, and his wife Sheila; Tracy and his wife Cathy; and Kip and his wife Angie.  He has six grandchildren: Jason, Megan, Ryan, Reid, Tiana, and Kade.  Lloyd has four great grandchildren and his only living sibling, Harold and his wife, Coleen of Blue Earth, MN.

Lloyd would be the first to admit that his was a life well lived and he leaves this earth with a peaceful soul, comfort in his heart, and no regrets.

When Marilyn passes, their ashes will be mixed and they will be together for eternity.

Lloyd's family would like to invite you to join them in honoring and remembering Lloyd on February 3rd from 2:00 to 4:00 at the Leon Community Center.
