Donalee Marilyn Schellin
Donalee Marilyn Schellin passed away at the age of 94 of natural causes on January 13, 2018, in St Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
When Dona was born on June 23, 1923, on the family farm north of Marion, the attending physician was paid with a sack of potatoes. She was the fifth of ten children born to John M and Ethelyn Faye (Goodyear) Howe and was her parents’ caregiver in their latter years.
Dona was a Woman of Action, accomplished at homemaking as well as electronic assembly, retiring from Rockwell Collins after several years working in the White Room. Her happiest times were the winters she spent in Florida with her family and friends.
Preceding her in death were her husband Richard Galen Schellin; her parents; her brothers John Meredith, William Verlet, Roberly Donard “Don”, Lewayne Calvin “L.C.”, and Delwin Dale; her sisters Gayline Lenore Powers and Marita Ethelyn “Effie” Rust; and great-granddaughter Summer Stewart.
Surviving are her son, John Byron (Sharon) Stewart of Delaware, and daughter, Marita Faye Frajman Stewart of Iowa City; siblings Arlen Ray (Frieda) Howe of Central City and Margaret Marabel “Mary” Frye of Stevens Point, Wisconsin; grandchildren John Stewart, Rebecca Stewart Northwood, Faye Marilyn Stewart Swanson, Caitlin Stewart Whitaker, and Owen Nibley Stewart; great grandchildren Brooke Stewart, Christopher Stewart, Megan Stewart, Freya Schellin, Clyde Whitaker, Heidi Whitaker, Jack Whitaker, Eric Whitaker, Joshua Whitaker, Zenichi Stewart, and Daisy Stewart; as well as numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
The Hospice unit at St Luke’s provided compassionate care for her last hours, and we are especially grateful for the peaceful atmosphere and the warm chocolate chip cookies.
Per Dona’s request, a service will not be held; a private family inurnment will take place at a later time.
