Lawrence Meyer, 72, of Latimer, passed away on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at his home in Latimer.

Lawrence Ervin Meyer was born on August 29, 1945 to Ervin and Margaret (Bessman) Meyer in Hampton, Iowa. On June 6, 1965, Lawrence married Janet Louise Fahrmann in Latimer.

Lawrence Meyer graduated from high school in 1965 from Cal school.  In the fall of that year he started college at Iowa State University majoring in ag industry.  On June 6th of 1965 he married Janet Fahrmann at the UCC church in Latimer.  After the wedding the couple lived in Ames for a year, so Lawrence could finish college.  Lawrence then started farming with his father Ervin Meyer north of Latimer.  In 2012 Lawrence retired from farming and Janet and he moved to Latimer, Iowa.  Shortly after moving to town he became part of the Latimer city council and he really enjoyed his civic duty.  While on city council he managed to get a street renamed after the town’s local dentist, Dr. Wirtz. 

Lawrence is survived by his wife Janet of Latimer; daughters Tamara (Ron) Miller of Alexander, IA, Rhonda Meyer of Grimes, IA, and Susan (Pete) Grett of Keller, TX; grandchildren Ray (Shannon) Mennenga of Mason City, IA, Cole (Hinda Moritz) Mennenga of Latimer, IA, Brandon Grett of Keller, TX, Taylor Grett of Keller, TX; step-grandchildren Darin Miller, Brittini (Lisandro) Miller, Christian Miller, and Tanner (Sarah) Miller; step-great-grandchildren Lucas Miller, Sophie Miller and Omer Miller; and sister Marianne Armento of Springfield, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents Ervin and Margaret (Bessman) Meyer; and grandson Andrew Mennenga.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, February 26, 2018 at Immanuel United Church of Christ, 204 East South Street, Latimer, IA 50452.  Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February, 27, 2018 also at Immanuel United Church of Christ in Latimer with interment of the urn to be held later at Marion Cemetery.
