Nancy "Louise" Johnston



Nancy Louise Johnston, 79 died Sunday, December 30, 2018, at Lutheran Hospital.  Louise was born on March 24, 1939, to Roy and Marjorie French.  She was the youngest of four children and grew up in Prairie City, where she graduated from high school in 1957.  Growing up she was active in the Prairie City Christian Church.  

She worked for Northwestern Bell in Des Moines, the local grocery store and as a custodian at Mitchellville Elementary and Southeast Polk Junior High.  She married Byron Johnston, December 15, 1962.  They lived in Mitchellville where they raised their son Steve “Goob” Johnston.  Louise was a Cub Scout den mother an avid member of the Tuesday afternoon bowling league and the Saturday Night Mitchellville Moonlighters. Her hobbies included gardening, cooking, and crossword puzzles.

Those left to cherish her loving memory are her husband, Byron Johnston and her son Steve “Goob” Johnston of Mingo.  Her sister Laura Wickham of Newton, Don Cadden of Ankeny, John and Cheryl Johnston of Mitchellville, and many nieces and nephews and their spouses and children.

Services to be held Thursday, January 3, at 2:00 p.m. With visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m. at the Mitchellville Congregational Church, Mitchellville, Iowa. Memorial contributions may be directed to Congregational Church, Mitchellville Fire Department, and Mitchellville Community Center.
