Michael Andrew Fryslie

Mike Fryslie of Ackley, Iowa, died unexpectedly on September 16, 2017. He was surrounded by his family and enveloped in their love.

Mike was born March 22, 1937 in Iowa Falls, the son of Ernest Fryslie and Irene (Lillegard) Fryslie.

He married Kathy Withers on October 24, 1958 in Webster City, Iowa.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, sons Paul (Bobette), Chris (Stacia), and Matthew. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Levi (Alicia), Kacey Boschulte (Alex), Abbye, Ian (Amy), Madison, and Kolton; great-grandchildren: Jayce, Bretton, Elise; his sister Pat, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son Joe, both parents, his brother Joe, sister Shirley and son-in-law Frank.

When his father entered World War II the family moved to Webster City where Mike, living in abject poverty, attended school.  When he left Webster City he served as a member of the U.S. Army 101st Airborne Division. He revisited his paratrooper experience when he went skydiving with his granddaughters on July 29th of this year.

Mike worked in the building trades for many years and was a well-respected Youth Service Worker at the State Training School in Eldora until his retirement.

Mike had a depth of understanding that extended beyond the words one used. This quality has endeared him to not only his own boys but to his grandchildren, his nieces, nephews, as well as family and friends.

Friends are invited to participate with the family in sharing remembrances of Mike during a Celebration of Life at the Ackely Country Club at 902 8th Avenue in Ackley, Iowa from 2:30 PM to 4:00 PM on October 8, 2017.
