John Brady

John C. Brady, 77, of Keystone, Iowa, passed away, Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at the Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha.

John Charles Brady was born April 1, 1940 in Akron, Iowa, the son of Eldon and Carrie (Akers) Brady. He graduated from the Grand Junction Consolidated Schools and then attended Buena Vista College. On October 28, 1961, he married Patricia Kirby at Grand Junction, Iowa. John worked at Keystone Farmers Coop Telephone Co. for over 40 years and was a member of the Keystone Volunteer Fire Dept. where he had previously served as Fire Chief. He also was a member of the Keystone Turners, Alcohol Anonymous-Cedar Rapids District 8 and Keystone AA, C&NW Railroad Society and the American Radio Relay League. He enjoyed model railroading, collecting telephone antiques and insulators, and woodworking.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Patricia; children, John (Lisa Wagner) Brady of Cedar Rapids, Joyce (Marty Canova) Brady of Beaverdale, IA, Jana Dewhurst of Waukee, IA. Also surviving are 5 grandchildren, John Hansard, Keri Mohr, Kiley, Nathan and Benjamin Dewhurst; 2 great granddaughters, Kenley and Azalea Mohr.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Judith Ann Brady, and sister, Sharon Looschen.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, November 5, 2017 from 2:00-5:00 pm at the Merkel-Bockholt American Legion Post #107, 105 Main St., Keystone, IA 52249.

Memorials may be given in his name to the Keystone Volunteer Fire Dept, 208 First Ave, P. O. Box 218, Keystone, IA 52249.
