Margaret Swartz

Margaret Ann Irvin Swartz passed from this earth on November 10, 2017 at the age of 97.

Her parents were the late John and Jean Cato Irvin of Northboro, Iowa.  She was married to the late Guy Swartz, Jr. for 40 years. She was also married to the late Bob Hermes for 15 years.

She is survived by son Dennis (Sue) Swartz of Midland, Texas, Diane (David) Leonard of Waukee, Iowa; granddaughters, Darcy (Brad) Burnett of Waukee, Iowa; Jennifer (Brian) Jones of Hendersonville, TN; and Julie (Ben) Boulden of Waukee, Iowa; and three great granddaughters Miranda Burnett,  Macy and Molly Jones, and one great grandson William Boulden.

Margaret was adopted several weeks after birth by her parents.  It was her red hair that caught their attention and completed their loving family.  And, it was her mother who was the first person who came to see the newborn son of Guy and Flora Swartz, Sr., her future husband’s parents.

Margaret attended Tarkio College in Tarkio, Missouri and became a teacher.   On May 10, 1940 she married Guy Swartz.  They eloped to Rockport, Missouri because she was a teacher and her contract said she could not be married.

During World War II when Guy was in the Army, they lived in Los Angelos, Cal. She returned  to Shenandoah, Iowa before her son was born in 1946.  She taught school after her daughter Diane was born.  Margaret and Guy later relocated to Alexandria, LA and she was an office manager for a physician.

After they retired they moved to Alamo Texas.  She and her second husband Bob moved to Waukee, Iowa to be near her daughter, son-in-law and two granddaughters in 2007. After he departed Iowa she remained to be near her daughter and family.  In 2016 she moved to Midland, Texas to be with her son and his wife.

She will be interred at Rose Hill Cemetery in Shenandoah, Iowa following a graveside service at a later date.

The family wishes to express thank you to Orchard Park of Permian Basin and to Hospice of Midland. Donations in her memory may be made to your favorite charity.
