William Lafayette Belcher
William Lafayette Belcher, 93, of Grinnell, passed away on Monday, May 29, 2017, at the St. Francis Manor in Grinnell. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, June 3rd at 10:30 AM at Calvary Baptist Church, 1625 Penrose Street, Grinnell, Iowa with Pastor Craig Johnson officiating. Iowa Cremation is assisting the family.
William was born on June 24, 1923 to Jasper Belcher and Bessie (Tennant) Belcher in Story County, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Anna Belle Large on June 27, 1942 in Unionville, Missouri.
Bill was a member of the Assembly of God church, where he enjoyed teaching Sunday school, providing rides to those in need, helping with construction and repair and in any other way that was needed. He also enjoyed attending Calvary Baptist Church services and their seniors group. He was a hardworking man who worked at Golden Sun Feeds and on the farm he loved, and spent his free time studying the word of God. He was a very talented man who could do anything he put his mind to. He was a man whose life was lived helping others, and would always help anyone in need. He will be greatly missed.
Bill is survived by his children, Sheila (Don) Lane of Oskaloosa, Linda (Stan) Smith of Cedar Rapids; Ron (Deb) Belcher and Steve Belcher, both of Grinnell; daughter-in-law, Karon (Bill) Belcher; brother, Johnny; sixteen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Anna Belle; son Bill Belcher; daughter-in-law Linda (Steve) Belcher; one grandchild; one great-grandchild; 14 brothers and sisters.
