He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Joyce Myers Kohl, daughters Carrie Gannon and her son, Shamus, Julie Vietor and her sons, Burke and Hunter, Julie Toman(Steve Orenberg), Lori Toman Jones, and Wendy Toman (Gary Junge), his niece Kimberly Kohl Peterson, and her sons Ryan (Monica) and Erik; his sister, Janet Kohl Palmer, niece Kristi Hettick Skelton, and nephew Rick Hettick.

Dick began his professional career at Kohl Enterprises with his Father Otto. He was a life-long member of the Cedar Rapids Country Club, an avid golfer, and a voracious reader. He and his wife shared a passion for animals. In his later life, he volunteered his time at St Luke’s Hospital.

In lieu of flowers, it is Dick’s wishes that donations are made to Safe Haven, an animal shelter located in Homestead, IA. The family would also like to extend heartfelt gratitude to all the staff at the MeadowView Memory Care, who provided him with loving care in his final months.
