Mr. Gerald Knoot, of Melcher, IA passed away on Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at The Comfort House in Pella.

Gerald (Gary) Dean Knoot was born to Garrett Knoot and Emma (Groenenboom) Knoot on August 11, 1940 in New Sharon, IA. On December 30, 2000, Gerald married Glenda Sue Rouse in Fremont, IA. Gerald graduated from Lacey High School.

Gerald was a farmer and enjoyed working with animals and farming throughout his life.  He was an entrepreneur, starting several businesses such as a pest control company, auto sales, fiberglass vault company, an ice cream shop and several others.  He enjoyed driving a school bus for Eddyville Schools during his retirement.  He had many hobbies including restoring old cars and tractors, fishing, listening to country music, playing shuffleboard and traveling.  He also enjoyed spending time in Texas each winter.  Gerald was a humble man, would help anyone who needed it, and volunteered his time and efforts for many. Gerald was an elder in the Knoxville Seventh Day Adventist Church. 

Gerald is survived by his wife Glenda Sue Knoot; son Jeffrey J. (Ulli) Knoot of Knoxville, IA; daughter Shari Leatherman of Oskaloosa, IA; step-daughters Michelle (Adam) Hill of Waukee, IA and Cathy (Jeff) Kuhl of Bennington, NE; grandsons Cory Knoot of St. Louis and Jason Nielsen of Oskaloosa, IA; granddaughters Ashley Russell and Brittney Hol of Oskaloosa, IA; five step-grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Lois and a brother, James.

A memorial service will be held to celebrate the life of Gerald Knoot on Sunday, August 6, 2017, 2 PM at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, 1201 S. Attica Road in Knoxville, IA.
