Robert William (Bob) Darr

Robert William (Bob) Darr, Sr., 87 of Milton, IA. died peacefully in his sleep at home on January 18, 2017.  He was born February 15, 1929, in Aurora, IL. to Seymour and Dorothy (Remissong) Darr.  He served in the United States Navy.  He married Mary Alice Glass on May 10,1952.

The family owned and operated Bob’s Skelly and Mary’s Market in Keosauqua, IA.  They sold the business and moved to Milton where they operated Cedars Truck Stop.  Bob retired in 2008. 

He enjoyed being with his family and traveling. Bob enjoyed playing golf and was a member of the Timber Ridge Country Club in Memphis, MO.  He was a lifelong fan of the Chicago sports teams: the Bears, the Blackhawks, the Bulls, and most especially, the 2016 World Series Champions, the Cubs.  He enjoyed going to Las Vegas with his wife, Mary during the winter months.  He had a genuine love of people and people loved him as well.

Survivors include his wife Mary Alice Darr, his brother, Edward (Elaine) Darr, his three daughters, Connie S. Darr of Columbus, GA, Nancy L. (Stan) Epp of Omaha, NE, Peggy A. (Rick) Birchmier of Milton, IA, three sons, Robert W. (Ginny) Darr, Jr. of Norwalk, IA, Michael J. (Kim) Darr of Granger, IA, and Richard F. (Pennie) Darr of Indianola, IA; 13 grandchildren: Amanda Blair (Brian) Magrum, Eric Leigh Murphy, Ashley Layne Araujo, David L. Birchmier, Emily A. Birchmier, Christopher J. Darr, Michael R. Darr, Zack J. Prewitt, Adam M. Darr, Annemarie M. Darr, Hannah M. Darr, Bethany K. Darr, and Hailey G. Darr; five great-grandchildren: Zander A. Magrum, Dominic J. Murphy, Angel Araujo, Anthony Araujo, and Larry J. Prewitt.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, four sisters, Ruth Ziegler, Helen Weiler, Marion Baxter, Sister Carmel OSF, and two grandchildren: Sean U. Murphy and Benjamin F. Darr.

Please join the family in the celebration of his life on June 3, 2017, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Lacey State Park Beach House in Keosauqua, IA.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Father Flanigan’s Boys Town,14100 Crawford Street, Boys, Town, NE 68010.
