Obituary for Carolyn Ann Iles

Carolyn Ann Hoshaw Iles, was born on December 31, 1939 to Harvey and Pearl Hoshaw.  She returned home at the age of age 77 on February 23, 2017 surrounded by loving family members.  One of 9 children, she was a lifelong resident of Stratford, Iowa.  Among her siblings she is survived by one brother, Roger Hoshaw.  She was also preceded in death by a son, Lyle.  She will be interred with him at Oakwood Cemetery near Hook’s Point.

She leaves here to continue her legacy of love her spouse and lifelong love Larry D Iles of Stratford, as well as 3 children: Deb (Rich) Patterson- Engelhorn, LuAnn (Dean) VanLangen, and Larry E. (Robin) Iles.  Grandchildren: Aaron (Megan) Patterson, Monica (Brad) Phillips, Dean (Amanda) Chally, Rachel Chally, John (Allie) Iles, Ashley (Cody) Iles, Todd (Eva) VanLangen, and Charli and Mari Engelhorn.  She was also a proud Great-grandmother to 14 great-grandchildren, and she willingly supported many other children in need of a grandmother or the support of a grand-friend.  There are also nieces and nephews too numerous to mention, yet too important not to.

She knew that the best things in life weren’t things.  She had a song in her heart and she was able to belt it out too.  She saw beauty in the world around her; it was in the trees, in the wildflowers, and in the ever changing flow of the river.  In lieu of flowers, memorials should be directed to the Stratford Public Library as the beneficiary. 

A Celebration of Life will be held on 5/6/17 at 2-4pm at the Stratford City Park when the wildflowers are in bloom, and the morels are up.  Family eulogies, music, and a memorial to honor her life will precede a come and go celebration.
