Stephen John Voit
Stephen John Voit was born to Jerome and Kathleen (Holtzbauer) Voit in Algona, IA on July 28, 1941. He passed away, after a hospitalization, at Hospice of the Valley in Scottsdale, AZ on December 17, 2017.
A graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School, Steve attended Drake University.
He married Marcia Moser in 1962. They had one son, Eric. They moved throughout Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois and Texas while he was working in the building and construction industry.
Steve married Harriet Gallagher in 1984 and settled in West Des Moines. Golden Circle was his commercial and residential inspection business. They were together until Harriet’s death in 2012.
In December 2013, Steve married LaVonne Neerland. They spent the next 4 years enjoying their RV, Arizona winter home, traveling and being together. Steve loved nature and animals, especially his dog Barney, and Kat who was his faithful companion for the past 10 years. He found joy in Arizona sunsets, driving his convertible and his new great-granddaughter, Jensen. Woodworking was his passion and he could never pass up a beautiful piece of wood. Steve was an active member of Sacred Heart Church, The St. Serra Club, and Friendship Force of Greater Des Moines.
Preceded in death by his parents and wife, Harriet, Steve is survived by his son, Eric (Pamela) Voit and their children Brandon and Ilana; his sister Susan Voit; niece Mary Beth Anzivino-Barnes (Jason), great nieces Kaytlyn and Mandy; and his dear aunt, Alvera Holtzbauer; his wife LaVonne Neerland and her children Patricia (Brian) Scieszinski; Benjamin (Brooke), Rachel (James), and Jensen; Laura (Jake). Mary Jo (Tod) Houck; Jacob, Patrick, and Paden. Harriet’s children; John (Vicki) Gallagher, Anne (Patrick) Baumhover, Edward (Lori) Gallagher, Joseph (LynneAnn) Gallagher; their children who loved their “Bops”; Adam, John, Cathleen, Danielle, and Kaylinn; Eric’s Mother Marcia, and cousins, friends and associates.
A celebration of Steve’s life will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1627 Grand Ave, West Des Moines on Friday, January 12, 2018. Visitation will be at 10:00 followed by Mass at 11:00. Inurnment will be held at the Calvary Cemetery in Algona, IA at a later date.
