Alan Howard Hamilton
Alan Howard Hamilton, 72, of Hampton, died on December 1st 2017 of a sudden cardiac event. Alan was born on August 17th 1945 in Hampton, and was voted Grand Champion Boy at the Franklin County fair as a toddler. He graduated from Hampton High School in 1963, and served in the U.S. Army stationed in Heidelberg, Germany during the Vietnam War.
Alan is survived by his sister Marcia (J.C. “Chuck” Purdy) Hamilton of Ames; daughter Kim (Scott) Douglass of Berlin, Germany; son Bradley (Jocelen) Hamilton of Iowa City; stepdaughter Lisa Dixon of Cedar Falls; granddaughter Quinn Douglass of Berlin; and many cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Howard and Lucille (Mahncke) Hamilton.
Alan’s passion for auto mechanics developed early and he was given the nickname “Speed” by his junior high school friends. This focus continued throughout his life, and was punctuated by his contributions to a record-breaking racing team, machine shop ownership, and master level appointments across the Midwest. His skills as an auto mechanic were unparalleled.
