Marietta Mitchell

Marietta Mitchell left her earthly body on Tuesday.27.September.2o16. under the loving care of her five daughters: Diane, Vicki, Heidi, Becky and Marcia. Born Marietta Susanna Frigge in Hartington, NE, to Amelia Lintz Frigge and John Frigge in 1931, she married Irving Hoffbauer in 1951. Later divorced, Mom married Robert "Mitch" Mitchell.

Mom raised 6 children, but her home was always full of kids, teenagers, family friends and many stray animals that came to stay. Many people knew her as a friend, and countless kids called her "Mom." As her children grew, the "Hoffbauer Hotel" was frequently the hub for drop-in card games, conversation, music, TV & pool games. Many found a friendly, loving and safe place to be.

Among her various communal activities, Mom was a member of the family & civic-minded women's group, 'Harmonettes', that passed a legacy of artistic traditions and skilled craft to her children, grand-children & many others. Decorating for Christmas, making spectacular hand-crafted ornaments & cookies, conjuring distinctive costumes for Halloween, sewing, gardening, cooking, putting up pickles and tomatoes were among her many skills. In her later years, Marietta continued to attract many friends with her warmth, loving Heart, and open personality. Never ceasing to do things for others and the betterment of the environment, she salvaged and distributed thousands of usable items to many in need. Marietta was a member of St Theresa of the Child Jesus Church & St Pius Catholic Church and enjoyed attending mass.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and her grandson, Jacob Anfinson. Survivors are: a sister, Louise Wallace, brother Charles Frigge, and sister Sr. Marielle Frigge; a son, Gary Hoffbauer (Vic), daughter, Diane Groves (Bob), dau. Vicki Hoffbauer, dau. Heidi Hoffbauer, dau. Becky Hoffbauer, dau. Marcia Hoffbauer-Brown (Daniel); four step-children: Judy, Janet, Mike & Steve; 12 grand children, 25 great grand children.

If you wish to honor this unique woman, please do so with a random act of kindness for someone you don't know. If offering a memorial donation, please consider Alzheimer's research or Hospice. A Celebration of Life gathering is pending for early November.
