Merritt Mattson

Merritt Mattson of Boone, Iowa passed away on Friday, March 25, 2016 at Israel Hospice House in Ames after a courageous fight with pancreatic cancer.

He was survived by his wife Deanna (Wilson/Wilcox) of 32 years; son, Steven Mattson and his wife Susan of Lansdale, PA; daughter, Rebekah Saia and her husband Herb of Newago, MI; daughter, Shawna Taylor of Palm Desert, CA; stepson, Brian Wilcox and his wife JayLyne of Spring, TX; stepson Gary Wilcox and his wife Robyn of Boone; eight grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren; a brother, Robert Bodell and his wife Cathy of Benzonia, MI; a sister, Betty Kiesel of Copemich, MI and many nieces and nephews.

Merritt was born December 16, 1935 in Cadillac, MI to William and Waneita (Garton) and was a graduate of Cadillac High School.  Merritt was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Boone, where he served as a member of the choir and the male gospel quartet.  He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers William and Elwood.

Per Merritt’s wishes, his body has been cremated.  Memorial services will be held 11 AM at First United Methodist Church of Boone on Saturday, April 23, 2016.  Visitation and luncheon will follow.
