Rick Holiday
Rick David Holiday, the son of Jack and Jeanette Holiday, was born November 19, 1957, in Spencer, Iowa. He graduated from Spencer High School in 1976 and received a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Iowa State University in 1981. Rick married Julie E/ Turner on September 26, 1992, in Des Moines, Iowa, and they resided in the Des Moines and Grimes area throughout their married life.
Rick passed away at Iowa Methodist Medical Center on January 17, 2016, at the age of 58 surrounded by family, friends, and the love of God. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Rick was almost always cheerful and smiling. He loved life and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Rick had a hearty laugh, which sometimes changes to his “wheezing” laughter often over the stupidest things. It was infectious and always brought everyone to tears from laughing so hard with him!
Rick attended most of this children’s school actives and sporting events over the years and hopefully did not embarrass them too much with his sometimes loud encouragement or dance moves.
Rick was a faithful member of Grimes United Methodist Church serving on the Special Parish Relations Committee (SPRC) and participating in worship teams and choir. He was an avid sports fan or anything from golf to football to basketball. Iowa State and the Vikings were his favorite teams, but he would also root for any Iowa team, unless they were playing Iowa State.
Rick most recently enjoyed substituted teaching in the Dallas Center-Grimes and Johnston Schools for preschool through High School classes.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Julie, and his three children, Adam (20), Joshua (16), and Megan (14), all of Grimes; brothers, Mark (Kathy) of Altoona, IA and Brad (Melissa) of Alpine, UT; and a sister, Merry (Mike) of Urbandale, IA; other relatives and many friends.
Celebration of Life Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 29, 2016, at the Grimes United Methodist Church Grimes, Iowa. Visitation with family will precede the services from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m., at the church. Inurnment will be privately held at a later date at the Grimes Cemetery.
The family is handling arrangements privately. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Rick’s family (to be designated at a later date) or to a charity of donor’s choice.
