Michael Hicklin

Michael A. Hicklin, 68, of Rose Hill and formally of New Sharon Iowa, passed away on Sunday, January 17th, 2016, at the Serenity House in Oskaloosa, Iowa surrounded by family.

A memorial gathering and military honors in celebration of his life and dedication will be held at a later date in May at Union Mills Gravesite, New Sharon Iowa.

Michael was born on May 12th, 1947 to James and Geraldine Hicklin in Oskaloosa, Iowa.  He grew up in Woodbine, Iowa and went to Woodbine to school.  Michael joined the United States of America Marine Corp. and was a Vietnam Veteran.  After Vietnam, Michael was honorably discharge from the Marine Corp.  He was united in marriage to Linda Sue Steel (Mann) of New Sharon and formally of Woodbine, Iowa for 25 years.  After which he moved his family which included two son’s to New Sharon, Iowa.  He was employed by the city of New Sharon for several years and also worked for Gary Junkins trucking of Oskaloosa, Iowa before entering retirement.  Michael moved to Rose Hill, Iowa. Michael remarried and lived there with his wife Sherrin of more than 15 years.
 
Michael enjoyed spending time with his friends, family and grandchildren.  He had been a member of the American Legion and the Rose Hill church.  He remained a faithful loyal Marine throughout his life. He was very active in the Rose Hill community and church.  He enjoyed spending time on wood working and building things.  He loved outdoor recreation camping and fishing. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife Sherrin to visit her daughter Ayrrin and grandchildren.  Michael will be missed by many.
 
Michael is survived by his wife Sherrin Hicklin of Rose Hill, Iowa, two sons, James M. Hicklin ( Jacki Braack) of Grinnell, Iowa and Aaron A. Hicklin (Sara) of New Sharon, Iowa;  Mother-in-law Irene Mae Thies of Rose Hill, Iowa,  one daughter Ayrrin Kostenlnick (John Kostelnick) of El Paso, Illinois. Two brothers, Larry Hicklin of Schleswig, Iowa and Sam Hicklin of Hampton, Iowa; 3 sisters, Gloria (Punk) Hollander (Ted) of Denison, Iowa, Deloris (Prune) Pauley (Alfred) of Panama, Iowa, Myra Kerger (John) of Woodbine, Iowa.  Six grandchildren;  Jaimeson Hicklin of Grinnell, Iowa.   Garrett Singletary of New Sharon, Iowa, Makenzie Hicklin of New Sharon.  Isabelle, Francesca’ and Henry Kostelnick of El Paso, Illinois. One God Daughter Trina Pauley of Shelby, Iowa.   Many nieces and nephews.  
 
Michael was preceded in death by his parents, three grandchildren: Jamie, Carson and Christian Singletary,  Brother-in-law Gary Thies.
