Richard "Dick" Dinsdale

Richard Lee “Dick” Dinsdale, Traer, died Saturday, February 6 at his home of natural causes.  He was born November 25, 1939 in Tama County, the son of Leroy and Louise Dinsdale.  After graduating Dinsdale High School with the Class of 1957 he made his home on the family farm.  On June 15, 1963 he was United in Marriage to Carolyn Sue Strohbehn.  After serving in the United States Army in Germany from 1962-1964 they made their new home in Northern Tama County engaged in farming and livestock.  A short time later he entered into the auctioneer and cattle buying business and spent the next 30 plus years working at numerous livestock auctions throughout Iowa and conducting farm retirement and machinery sales.  He was regarded to many as having a good eye for cattle and kept the yards of many producers full as needed.  As time passed his interest turned also towards the Tama County land in the surrounding area in which he grew up, acquiring several parcels of farm ground over the years which were used in cow/calf and crop production.  He had a genuine appreciation for good livestock and the ground on which they stood.  He was a member of the Kubik-Finch American Legion Post in Traer and was proud to have served his country.  Richard was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Carolyn, a son Chet, daughter Tracy.  Survivors include two sons Rex (Brenda) of Reinbeck, Jay of Iowa City, and two grandchildren Reed (Lydia) of Des Moines and Tessa of West Des Moines.  A Celebration of Life visitation is planned for Sunday, February 14 from 1-4 p.m. at the Traer Memorial Building.

Condolences by be sent to 804 Crestview, Traer, IA 50675.
