Robert Eluwin Gedlinske

Robert (Bob) Eluwin Gedlinske, 91, died on August 28, 2016 at Legacy Gardens.

Born in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, to Leo and Leone Gedlinske, Bob spent his childhood years living in Ripon, Lomira and Fond du Lac.  Bob graduated from Goodrich/Fond du Lac High School in 1943 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy in June of 1943.  He served in WWII as an Aviation Ordinanceman Second Class and was discharged in 1946.

In May of 1949, Bob married Pauline Andrews of Fond du Lac, WI.  Shortly after their marriage, he accepted a position with National Cash Register (NCR) in Dubuque, Iowa.  In 1958, he was transferred to the Iowa City branch of NCR.

Bob worked as a service technician for NCR, where he retired after 40 years of service.  He serviced the cash registers of many Iowa City landmarks, including Pagliai’s, Hamburg Inn, Hy-Vee and Hills Bank.

Bob enjoyed card games, fishing, traveling, genealogy, music and dancing.  He loved to have a good time and had a great sense of humor.  His family was very important to him and he was proud of all of them.  Bob always made time for attending his children’s, grandchildren’s, and great-grand children’s activities.

A celebration of Bob’s life is planned for Sunday, September 4, 2016 at St. Mary’s Church in Iowa City.  The family will greet people at 1:30 pm and a service will follow at 2:30 pm.  A luncheon will be served after the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to Iowa City Hospice.

Bob leaves his wife of 67 years, Pauline (Andrews) Gedlinske; his sons, Mark of Iowa City, Kent of North Liberty (Colleen), Scott of Apple Valley, Minnesota (Sheri), Brian of Cedar Falls, Iowa (Jean) and Jon of Iowa City; his daughter Lynn of West Branch, Iowa (Jerry) Clayton; his grandchildren, Troy (Michelle), Amber, Matt, Jason (Melissa), Jeremy (Kelly), Evan (Jenny), Lauren, Gabe, and Anya; his great-grandchildren, Tyler, Kyle, Ellie, Abbie, Evy, Max, McKinley, Addyson and Mallory; his sister-in-laws, Shirley Gedlinske and Delores Ganz; his brother-in-law, Richard Andrews, and many close friends.  Bob was preceded in death by his father, Leo; his mother, Leone; his brother, David; and a grandson, Justin.

The family would like to thank all of the staff at Legacy Gardens and Hospice who provided compassionate care to Dad.
