Jarold Komro

Jarold Philip Komro, 77, of Iowa City died Sunday August 14, 2016 after what he often referred to as a “full and good life”.

Born on the family farm in Durand, Wisconsin, son of William J. and Verena [Kothbauer] Komro, Jarold was one of nine children.

He married Irma Louise [Lund] Komro in 1960 in Durand. He is the father of two children Mitch Komro [Monica] and Jeanna Komro Holmes [Craig]) and grandpa to six grandkids: Kevin, Cory, Alex, Ethan, Adam and Kamea.

Jarold enjoyed a brief stint in the National Guard before attending a two-year college to become certified as a radiology technician. He quickly gained a reputation as a leader and was promoted to a career in administration that brought him great joy. He was administrative manager of radiology at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City for 18 years and then at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights, Illinois for another ten.  Upon retiring, he sold cars before devoting himself to being a full-time caregiver for his beloved wife, Irma, until her passing.

Jerry was happiest when he was busy working. Whether on the job or in the home, his greatest delight was serving others -- especially his family. His distinctive whistling let everyone around him know how much satisfaction he derived from this.

Jarold had a wonderful, quirky sense of humor; reminiscent of favorite musician Doug Kershaw (“Diggy Liggy Lo”) - google it! He also took pleasure in taking money from his brothers in friendly card games. He will be fondly remembered by all whose lives he touched.
