Merle "Butch" Eugene Meyers
Merle Eugene “Butch” Meyers, 65, of Central City, Iowa, peacefully passed away on September 17 at 5:35pm at UIHC after a long fought battle with lung disease. He was surrounded by his family.
Butch was born on June 21, 1950 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to Charlotte and Merle. He graduated from Marion High School in 1969 and married his high school sweetheart Jeanne Lyon in 1970. He endeavored many different occupations until he committed to selling insurance. He owned Meyers Insurance Co. until his first retirement and purchased the Meyers’ Farm in 1990. Butch and Jeanne opened Beds & Biscuits Boarding Kennel in 1998 and ran it with their family until their retirement early in 2015.
Merle was a steward of the land and loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing, carpentry and the smell of sawdust, and bidding wars at auctions. He lived an extremely full and fruitful life, and he did it without many regrets. Everything he built in his life, he did so for family and friends.
Butch is survived by his wife Jeanne, sons Chad, T.J., Jason & Jill, and beloved grandchildren Jayden and Chloe.
As per his wishes, there will be no service. Instead we will have “Butch’s Party” on October 10th from 1-4pm at his cabin on Meyers’ Farm, all are welcome.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to his granddaughter’s college fund at www.ugift529.com and enter code: P9H-A9U.
Memories, comments, and stories are encouraged and may be made at http://memorialwebsites.legacy.com/merlemeyers.
The family would like to thank all of the health care professionals and friends of Merle for their commitment and fellowship to him.
