Merle Dittmer
Merle Margaret Dittmer, 81, of Davenport passed away Saturday, November 21, 2015, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House after an extended illness. Memorial Services will be held at 11:30 AM, on Friday, November 27, 2015 at Zion Lutheran Church, 1216 W. 8th Street in Davenport; where friends will be greeted after 10 AM. A luncheon will follow the service. Private interment will take place at a later date at the National Cemetery in Rock Island.
Merle was born, December 13, 1933, in Chicago, Illinois, to Merlin and Alice Curry. She graduated from Davenport High School in 1952. She married Donald Dittmer on June 28, 1952. She retired from the Davenport School District where she was a para-educator. After retiring, Merle and Don enjoyed seeing the country in their motorhome.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. She was also a member of the Davenport Chapter of T.T.T. Society. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
Merle is survived by three daughters, Mary Teel of Greendale, IN, Diane Soppe and Cheryl Dittmer, of Davenport, IA; and two sons, David Dittmer of Davenport, IA, and Steven (Kelly) Dittmer, of Bettendorf, IA. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren; and 17 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Donald, granddaughter Michelle Jensen, great grandson Marcus Soppe, brother Robert Curry, and son-in-law, Michael Teel, and Wayne Soppe.
A memorial fund has been established for the Zion Food Pantry and EWALU Camp and Retreat Center in Strawberry Point.
