Evelyn Leona Crawford Miller died on November 22, 2015 in Decorah, IA after 100 years of a good life. Evelyn was born on October 8, 1915 in Independence, IA to Ray and Delilah McMillen. She graduated from Independence High School in 1931. She served as the County Treasurer of Buchanan County for many years, retiring in 1976. Evelyn is remembered as a kind, caring person who loved being with her family and enjoyed cooking, playing cards, and solving word puzzles. On July 9, 1941 she married Claude Crawford in Shenandoah, IA. They had two sons, Brian and Gary. Claude died on October 17, 1955. On September 1, 1960 she married Clair Miller in Independence. He died on March 14, 1997. Evelyn is survived by her sons, Brian Crawford of Monmouth, IL, and Gary and Beth Crawford of Decorah; four grandchildren, Stacey and Kendall Crawford of Monmouth, and Brad and Tricia Crawford of Decorah; five step-children, Diane Miller of Jesup, IA, Arch and Nancy Miller of Vancouver, WA, Martha and Jon Reamy of Ponce Inlet, FL, J.C. and Patty Miller of The Villages, FL, and Judy and Jack Hynes of DeBary, FL; sixteen step-grandchildren; twenty-one step-great-grandchildren; and five nieces and nephews, Sandra and John Marsau of Waterloo, IA, Dixie and Gordy Mosher of Huxley, IA, Franklin and Marlene Heiserman of Quasqueton, IA, Richard and Pat Axline of Independence, and Shirley Axline of Waterloo. In addition to her parents and husbands, Evelyn was preceded in death by her sisters, Lillian Axline, Leta Heiserman, and Pauline Van Ee; daughter-in-law, Susan Crawford in 2013; and step-son-in-law, John Miller in 2012. There will be a Celebration of Life service for Evelyn’s family at the First United Methodist Church in Independence, IA on December 5, 2015. Memorials may be given to Arlin Falck Assisted Living, 911 Ridgewood Drive, Decorah, IA, 52101, or a charity of your choice.
