Betty Jean Bennington was born August 17, 1928, to Victor and Mary (Reel) Bennington in Gilman, IA. They soon moved to Newburg, where Betty was raised and educated, graduating from Newburg school with the class of 1946.
Betty was united in marriage to Kenneth Adams on August 1, 1948, at the Congregational Church in Newburg. They made their home in Newburg, building a new house in 1956; much of it made from salvaged lumber from a church built on the site.
Betty enjoyed working, volunteering, and staying active. She drove a school bus for the Newburg School, clerked at McNally’s grocery, was purchasing agent at Miracle Equipment Co., and was a sales agent with Banker’s Life Insurance Co. She belonged or volunteered in many organizations including the Eagles Auxiliary and Charter member and only life-long member of the Newburg U-Go-I-Go Club, affiliated with Federated Women’s Club of America. Betty was a member of Newburg-Chester United Church of Christ and sang in the choir for many years.
Betty’s family was very important to her. She organized many family trips, trying to include everyone. The highlight was taking the entire family to Hawaii in 1998 for hers and Ken’s 50th Anniversary (24 in all).
Betty was a very positive, happy, generous woman. She considered every day a true gift and was grateful for all kindness shown her. She enjoyed music, dancing, gardening, canning, entertaining and her dogs, all rescues.
Betty is survived by her daughters, Teresa Innis and Vicki Smith, and her son, Chadler, all of Newburg. She has five grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ken of 58 years, her brother LaVerne and her son-in-law Ricky Innis.
