Margaret Howie
Margaret, age 89 passed away Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at her home. Visitation will be Thursday, May 21st from 6-8 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, Monticello. Services will be Friday, May 22nd at 10 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church (casual attire). Private grave side service at Oakwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Jones Regional Medical Center or First Presbyterian Church.
Margaret Kathleen Siebels Howie was born to Gerhardt and Helene Andreesen Siebels on May 19, 1925 at their farm at Langworthy, Iowa. At three the family moved to Anamosa, Iowa.
Margaret confirmed her faith at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Anamosa, on Palm Sunday April 2, 1939.
Margaret worked at Watkins Department Store and in 1942 she worked at the Reliance Shirt Factory. She graduated from Anamosa High School May 12, 1943. While in high school she took normal training and did her practice teaching at Stone City.
On October 6, 1943 she married Kenneth Howie from Monticello, Iowa at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church by Rev. Buesing. Kenneth and Margaret settled into the 100 year old ancestral home where Ken was born and died in 1997 after a long
illness. Margaret lived there until passing.
After marriage this city girl learned all that goes with farming, yard work, canning and care of their children. She was a Sunday School teacher at First Presbyterian Church, and Bible School teacher for many years. She was Worthy Matron of Eastern Star, very active in Rainbow for Girls and was Mother Advisor for several years. After Ken died she spent her time gardening, reading, quilting, and baking. She loved the outdoors, her flower beds and planted many trees. She loved to spend time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Margaret is survived by her daughter Diana (Dan) Stadtmueller, son Mike (Cheryl) Howie, two grandchildren Deborah Stadtmueller Vince, and Darren (Amie) Stadtmueller, four great granddaughters Abigail Vince, Madeline, Jacqueline, and Katherine Stadtmueller and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth, her parents Gerhardt and Helene Andreesen Siebels, a daughter Barbara Ann Howie in 1950. Also a brother and sister-in-law Henry and Mary Crosby Siebels, a sister-in-law Janet Howie Motsinger, a brother-in-law Donald Howie, a sister-in-law Ruth Howie Morris, and a brother-in-law John Morris.
