Catherine (Katie) Tigges

Catherine (Katie) Elizabeth Tigges, 84, of East Dubuque, Illinois, formerly of Peosta, Iowa, passed away at the Bell Tower Retirement facility on March 8, 2015.

A Memorial Mass celebrating Katie’s life will be held at 11:30 am Saturday, March 14, 2015 at the Nativity Catholic Church, Dubuque, with the Rev. Jim Miller officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:30-11:30 am at the church on Saturday morning.

Katie is survived by her children, Randa (Jim) Derby and Perry (Kathy) Tigges, both of Dubuque; grandchildren, Leslie (Jeff May) Sanford, Tara (Todd) Preston, Heath (Melissa) Derby, Marcus (Carrie) Tigges, and Ashley Tigges; great grandchildren, Noah, Paige and Mia Preston, Gillian Sanford, and Mila Derby; sisters, Hazel (Buzz Risley) Knaeble, and Lorraine Leute; sister-in-law, Lucille Helbing; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Anna (Roth) Helbing, mother and father-in-law, Mary and George Tigges, brothers Adam, Howard, Walter, Harold and Wilbert Helbing, and sisters, Bernice Pitzen, Mildred Pitzen, Marie Klaas, and Malinda Helbing.

Catherine was born May 27, 1930 to Elmer and Anna Helbing at Dickeyville, WI. She worked for Dubuque Packing Co. for 27 years before retiring. Katie loved spending time with her husband of 62 years. She also especially enjoyed family time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Some of her hobbies included canning, gambling, dancing, and gardening. Katie was also known for her hospitality and entertaining.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Katie’s name.

The family would like to especially thank Hazel Knaeble, Doris Tigges, MaryAnn McGrane and the staff at Bell Tower Retirement for all the visits and love giving to Katie.
