Elizabeth Moklebust

Elizabeth Moklebust died on Thursday, July 16, 2015, at Windsor Manor Assisted Living Community in Webster City, IA, at the age of 101.

Elizabeth Ruth Thebiay was born on May 1, 1914, to Joseph D. and Ethel Sophie (Mathews) Thebiay on the family farm south of Eagle Grove, IA. She attended the Eagle Grove Community Schools, graduating from high school with the class of 1932. After high school she attended American Institute of Business in Des Moines, IA and was employed by the U. S. Department of Agriculture in Des Moines.

Elizabeth was united in marriage to Bernhard Hartvig Moklebust on June 14, 1942 at her parents’ home in rural Eagle Grove. The couple made their home in Des Moines, then moved to her parents’ farm in 1944, which they later purchased and where they lived throughout their marriage. After her husband Bernhard’s death on April 22, 1995, she moved into a house in Eagle Grove, to Rotary Senior Living, and then to Windsor Manor Assisted Living Community, Webster City.

She was devoted to her family, her church, and was active in several organizations, including Beta Sigma Phi, Troy Culture Club, and Equality Club.

Elizabeth is survived by her daughter, Barbara (Charles) Hicks of Jerome, MI; sons Roger “Joe” (Mary) Moklebust of Des Moines, IA, and David (Cathy) Moklebust of Eagle Grove, IA; grandchildren Jennifer (Paul) Curtis, Angela (Greg) Walter, Chad Hicks, Melissa (Robert) Gorsline, Anders Moklebust, Tom Mix, Tracy (Sharm) Ward, Ryan Vosburgh, Jennifer (Tom) Jacobs, Jill (Randall) Crumpler, Sarah (Brett) Ballman, and Christopher Moklebust; great-grandchildren Benjamin and Elizabeth Curtis, Evan, Bradley, and Gabriel Walter, Aubrie, Molly, and Wyatt Gorsline, Justin (Lovilia) Ward, Courtney Ward, Chelsea and Hunter Vosburgh, Emily and Ethan Crumpler; a great-great grandson Logan Ward; a sister Helen Larsen; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Justin Thebiay, and grandson Hans Moklebust.

Visitation will be held at 10:00 with a memorial service following at 11:00 on Saturday, August 1, at New Hope Lutheran Church, 1115 SW 2nd Street, Eagle Grove, IA. Interment will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Eagle Grove.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to New Hope Lutheran Church or the organization of the donor’s choice.
