LaVerne Charles Benning, 88 of Geneva, Iowa passed away January 12, 2015 of natural causes.
A memorial service will be held at St. Peters UCC, Geneva, IA at a later date to be determined with burial at St. Peters UCC Cemetery, rural Geneva following the service. Pastor John Hanna will be officiating.
LaVerne is survived by son Jerry of Berlin, Germany; son Arnold (Sandy) of Waterloo, IA; Polish son Robert (Agata) and their son Wojtek & daughter Zosia of Warsaw, Poland; along with countless friends, cousins, nephews, & nieces.
LaVerne was preceded in death by parents Anna and Karl “Charlie;” wife Faye; daughters Charlene Ann and Diane Kaye; sister Lois; and brother Irvin.
LaVerne Charles Benning was born May 11, 1926 to Karl and Anna (Schmidt) Benning. LaVerne married Faye Spieker on July 15, 1951 in Geneva. LaVerne was born, raised, and lived his entire life in the farmhouse while farming the Century Family Farm until his retirement in the 1990s. He was active in his church, St. Peters UCC. He bowled on the Church bowling team and loved playing cards with anyone who would play and was a diehard St. Louis Cardinal fan.
