Kenneth L. Harms, 78, of Rowley, Iowa, died Monday, January 5, 2015 at the Buchanan County Health Center, Independence, Iowa.

A memorial service celebrating Kenneth’s life will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, January 10, 2015 at the First Presbyterian Church, Rowley, Iowa, with the Rev. Lisa Ross-Thedens officiating. Inurnment will be held in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, at a later date.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Donna Jean; Daughters, Mariana Marie (Perry) Lawrence of Cedar Rapids, Cheryl Ann (Robert) Wagner of Cedar Rapids and Kathleen Rose (Greg) Duggan of Mesa, AZ; Sister, Joyce Marie Hart of Anamosa. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and half brother, Donald Harms.

Kenneth LaVern Harms was born June 28, 1936 in Anamosa, Iowa the son of Kenneth and Stella (Ankney) Harms. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. On July 26, 1959 he married Donna Jean Burns in Monticello, Iowa. Kenneth worked as a machinist for many years at Rockwell Collins, owned and operated the Marion Meat Market from 1971-1981 and then the Center Point Locker from 1981-1996. He was a former member of the Center Point American Legion, Lions Club’s of Center Point and Independence and was currently a Buchanan County Master Gardner.

Memorials may be given in his name to Arc of East Central Iowa, 680 2nd St. SE #200, Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52401.
