Eldon Klaassen

Eldon Klaassen, 80, of Grundy Center, passed away Friday, January 16, 2015, at Grundy County Memorial Hospital, while under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice.   

Eldon was born September 6, 1934, in rural Stout, Iowa.  He was the son of Jacob and Tillie (Cordes) Klaassen.  He grew up in the Stout area and graduated from Dike High School in 1952.  He served his country from 1956 to 1958 in the U. S. Army.   He enjoyed a 38-year career with the Farmers Coop in Holland & Grundy Center, starting as a tank wagon driver in 1959 and retiring as general manager in 1997.  He was a lifetime member of AMVETS Post #17 and a volunteer fireman for 32 years with the Holland Fire Department.   Eldon most enjoyed fellowship with family and friends.   

Eldon was united in marriage to Anna Mae Meyer on December 26, 1956, at the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church.  They made their home in Holland and Grundy Center throughout their 58 year marriage.  He was a member of the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church, where he served as a Deacon.

Eldon is survived by his wife, Anna Mae; children, Lori (Sandy) McCrea of DeKalb, MO, Cindy Klaassen of Des Moines, Joni Klaassen of Des Moines, and Lance Klaassen of Ames; two step granddaughters, Ashley (Brendan) Sullivan and Megan McCrea-Meigs; five step great-grandchildren; and cousins.  He is preceded in death by his parents.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 22, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., and the funeral will be on Friday, January 23, at 10:30 a.m., both at Colfax Center Presbyterian Church, 18935 K Avenue, Holland, Iowa.  Memorials may be directed to Colfax Center Presbyterian Church, AMVETS Post #17, or Cedar Valley Hospice.
