Edward Hartman

Edward J. Hartman, 90, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on January 31, 2015 at Cottage Grove Place, where he had resided for almost ten years.  A private family service will be held at a later date.

Ed was born on November 16, 1924 in Guthrie Center, Iowa.  He received both his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Iowa.  He served our country as an officer in the U.S. Navy.  After a brief position with the Department of Justice in New York, he returned to Iowa.  He worked for the Simmons Perrine Moyer Bergman law firm and then joined Iowa Illinois Gas and Electric.  He worked in both Cedar Rapids and Davenport in varying positions, eventually accepting the role of Vice President and General Counsel for the company.  He also taught as an adjunct professor in the MBA program at St. Ambrose University in Davenport, a position he continued for ten years after he retired.

Ed is survived by two sons: Roger (Suzanne) of Scaly, North Carolina and Tim (Jeanie) of Cedar Rapids; two grandchildren: Roger, Jr. (Mary) of Rome, Georgia and Sandra Hartman (Ron Bose) of St. Louis, Missouri; five great-grandchildren; and a very special friend, Ruth Bickel.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, and a sister.

The family would like to thank the caregivers and staff at Cottage Grove Place for the wonderful care he received.

In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Ed’s honor.
