Cheryl Ann Vonstein
After a courageous battle with ovarian cancer, Cheryl Ann Vonstein died on January 6, 2015 in Vinton, IA, at the age of 77. Her family was at her side.
Cheryl was born on April 20, 1937 on a farm near Corydon, IA, to father Hollis Haskell and mother Evelyn Niday Haskell, both who preceded her in death. She grew up in a loving family with two sisters and one brother. She graduated from Seymour High School in 1955 and went on to study at Iowa Methodist Hospital School of Nursing. She graduated from nursing school in 1958. She was an emergency nurse and endoscopy nurse at Iowa Lutheran Hospital until she retired in 2005.
Cheryl met Robert Dean Vonstein while in nurses training and they married December 27, 1959. The couple lived in several places before settling down on the family farm near Bondurant, IA. There the couple lived and raised their son Eric. In 2011 after Cheryl’s diagnosis, the couple moved to Vinton, IA, to be closer to their son and his family.
Cheryl loved to watch her granddaughters participate in activities such as soccer and basketball. She was an avid reader of fiction and the news. Before her diagnosis, she enjoyed many trips with the Legacy Bank Grand Lifestyles Club. She remained a brave woman, even throughout her final weeks.
Cheryl’s memory will be cherished by her husband, Robert Dean of Vinton; her son Eric (Kris) Howes-Vonstein and two granddaughters Emily and Lucy of Vinton; her sister Sandra (Robert) Pick of Harrison, AK; her sister Linda (Dick) Snook of Fort Pierce, FL; her brother Steve (Celia) Haskell of Amarillo, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Cheryl requested to be cremated and to have a memorial service in warmer weather. The family would especially like to thank the staff at the Vinton Lutheran Home and Mercy Hospice for their excellent work and loving care. Condolences can be left at www.IowaCremation.com
