Shirley Schneiter

Shirley Jean Schneiter, 80, of Monticello, died Saturday, December 26, 2015 at Jones Regional Hospital in Anamosa surrounded by her family. Memorial Service: 11:00 am January 9, 2015 at First Presbyterian Church in Monticello. A visitation will be held from 5-7 pm January 8, 2015 at First Presbyterian Church in Monticello. 

Shirley was born September 17, 1935, the daughter of William and Anna (Harms) Lubben at John McDonald Hospital in Monticello. She graduated from Monticello High School in 1953. On July 15, 1956 she was united into marriage to George R. Schneiter at First Presbyterian Church in Monticello. Aside from helping her husband on the farm throughout their marriage, Shirley worked as a teller at various banks in Cedar Rapids and Monticello. She also waitressed at the Heights and the Wagon Wheel, and worked as an operator at Ertl Toy Company and Polo Plastics. 

Shirley had a passion for the flute as well as horses. A large part of her life was riding horses and enjoying them with her daughters. She could be found spending time with the “Brew Crew” at the Eagles whenever possible. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.  

Survivors include her husband, George Schneiter; three daughters, Debby (Dan) Schoon, Susan Schneiter, Sara (Marty) Lindauer; brother, Robert (Marj) Lubben all of Monticello; son-in-law, Keith Austin of Anamosa; four grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Darcy Austin; infant grandson, Joseph Lindauer; brother, Irvin Lubben; and three sisters, Esther Falconer, Arlene Griffith, and Lorraine Hudak.
