Julia L. Noss Witter

Julia L. Noss, 97, of Rockford, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 13, 2015 at Hospice of North Iowa in Mason City.

Julia was born March 23, 1918 in Scott Township and lived her entire life in Floyd County. She was the daughter of William J. and Matilda I. (Albrecht) Noss, the fourth child of what would become a large family of eleven children.

She attended country school and high school in Dougherty.

On April 26, 1938 she married Wm. George Kornegor in Rockford, and they became the parents of two daughters: Eileen Herrera and Evelyn Pecht. George died in 1960 and Julia remarried in 1964 to Dale Witter.  Dale died in 1981.

Dale and Julia loved to travel and spent many winters in the Mission, Texas area before he became ill.

Julia loved to work outside and what she always referred to as “digging in the dirt.”  For many years, she planted a large vegetable garden along with an envious strawberry patch. She loved nothing better than to jump in her van and drive to Tama for a night of baccarat at the casino.

Julia is survived by one daughter, Evelyn (Richard) Pecht, and six grandchildren: Melba, Tony, Dolores, Marco, Juan and Andrea; six great-grandchildren; two sisters; Mary Cart of California and Gladys Brallier of Nora Springs; one brother, Carl Noss of California and sister-in-law, Norma Noss of Charles City, numerous nieces and nephews, and especially her niece, Marge Swedberg of Rudd, who was always ready to help when needed.

She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; her beloved daughter, Eileen, in 2010; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Gert Lines and Frances James; five brothers: Toby, Matt, Jim, Jack and Kenneth Noss; and step-daughter, Virginia Witter.

Per Julia’s wishes, no services are planned. Inurnment will be at a later date in Riverside Cemetery, Rockford.
