Leslie Schwer

Leslie Schwer, 87, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Wednesday, April 8, 2015, at St. Luke's Hospice from complications of a broken hip.

Les was born to Willi and Alma Schwer in Tripoli, Iowa, on April 29, 1927. He married Belva Kisling on Sept. 15, 1957, in Independence. Les served three years in the Army during the Korean War.

He is survived by his wife, Belva, of 57 years; son, Steven (Christel), and granddaughter, Angela, of Germany; daughter, Brenda of New York; daughter-in-law, Della, grandson, Anthony (Katie), and great-granddaughter, Teagan, of Maryland; plus several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son, Ivan; daughter, Becky; two sisters; brother-in-law; and dog, Lucky.
Les worked for Independence Produce for several years, 26 years at Farmstead and part-time for Midwest Janitorial for 36 years.

Les loved fishing, bowling and spending time with his dog, Lucky.

Les attended Milestones for many years.

Les was a member of the Good News Baptist Church and received many prayers from Pastor Pleiness and others.

Special thanks to the staffs of Willow Gardens, St. Luke's Hospice and Therapy Solutions.

Les's wishes were to be cremated with a private service at a later date.

Memorials may be made to Good News Baptist Church in Les's name.
