Lawrence “Larry” Patrick Dowie, 82, of Monticello, IA passed away at his home Monday September 22, 2014. As were his wishes, he will be cremated. There are no services scheduled.
Larry is survived by his wife Linda Dowie of Monticello, IA; 5 children: Doug Dowie of Indianola, IA, Dave (Tracy) Dowie of Urbandale, IA, Tim Dowie of Des Moines, IA, Jim (Mary) Dowie of Pella, IA, and Karen (Tony) Sage of Ankeny, IA; two step daughters Kim (Dr. Kelly) Schmidt of Waterloo, IA, and Kristy (Michael) Macki of Cambridge, IA; two siblings: Denise Brunia of Ames, IA, and Fred Dowie of Adel, IA; 12 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Larry was preceded in death by his sons Mike and Scott Dowie, his parents, brothers Walter, Frank, and Gene Dowie.
Lawrence Patrick Dowie was born July 17, 1932 to Frank and Lillian (Traffley) Dowie in Des Moines, Iowa. He worked for a hotel chain for 18 years in Des Moines, IA and for the Anamosa State Penitentiary for 10 years. From 1951 to 1955, Larry served his country during the Korean War with the U.S. Navy. On April 2, 1986 he married Linda Dinnebier in Waterloo, IA.
