Lawrence Edward Griffin found peace on September 11, 2014 at 1:45 a.m. at Mercy Hospice Care, Iowa City, Iowa from prostate cancer.

Larry was born to Lawrence H. Griffin and Levira “Irene” Arnold.  Larry spent the first ten years of his life with his Grandma and Grandpa Arnold.  He attended Wapello and Wilton schools.

He joined the United States Navy in January of 1971 and continued his service until January of 1978, where he spent most of his time on the USS Spadefish – a nuclear submarine outside of Hawaii.

He was an avid computer technician, in which he went on to become an IT Director for Diamondback Management.  He lived in several states before settling in San Antonio, Texas for the last 20 years.  Larry enjoyed sky-diving, scuba-diving, and sailing on his boat, “Solitaire.”

He is survived by his step-mother Nadine Sedam of West Liberty; Uncle Lester (Lori) Arnold of Wapello; Aunt Ruth (Lloyd) Hughes of Lisbon; Aunt Marge Baldwin of Leavenworth, Kansas; Aunt Betty Griffin of Rogersville, Missouri; brothers Ernest Griffin of West Liberty and Jeff (Julie) Atkins of Wilton; sisters Crystal Griffin of Muscatine, Charlotte (Craig) Juergens of West Liberty, Kathy of Melrose, and Karen Atkins-Balabis of Okinawa, Japan; and several nieces and nephews.

Larry is preceded in death by his father, mother, step-father Gene Atkins, his grandparents, and several uncles and aunts.

Memorials may be made to Mercy Hospice Care, Iowa City.
