Duane S. Weber

Duane S. Weber, age 79, of Oelwein, Iowa, died Sunday, October 5, 2014 at ManorCare Health Services in Cedar Rapids after a lengthy battle with lung cancer.

He was born on July 7, 1935 in Readlyn, Iowa to Lester and Evelyn Cosselman Weber.  After Evelyn’s death when Duane was an infant, his father married Dorothy Neil, who Duane always considered “mom.”

After graduating from Fairbank High School in 1952, Duane enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served honorably overseas from 1954 until 1957.  He treasured his time travelling and serving his country.

When he was discharged from military service, Duane worked as both a seller, and later a buyer for men’s clothing.  He proudly sold for Hart Marx in Chicago, and bought for Famous-Barr Company in St. Louis, Bergdorf Goodman in New York City, and Cohoes Fashions in Albany, New York.

Duane enjoyed reading, and watching CNN.  He loved spending time with his dog, Kaido.

Duane is survived by his siblings Dixie Burg of Fairfax, Iowa and Gary Weber of Peoria, Arizona; and two aunts: Mildred Napoli of LaCrosse, Wisconsin and Frances Weber of Sumner, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Lester and Evelyn, and his mother Dorothy.

A celebration of life in Duane’s memory will be held 1:30 PM Sunday, October 12, 2014 at the Oelwein American Legion Hall: 108 1st Street SW.

Memorials may be directed to the Fairbank United Methodist Church, Cedar Valley Hospice, or the Cedar Bend Humane Society.
