Carol May Crump

Carol May Crump, 91, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Anamosa, died Sunday, October 26, 2014 at St. Luke’s Hospital.

A memorial service celebrating Carol’s life will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, November 2, 2014 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Anamosa where friends may call after 1:15 pm Sunday. Inurnment will be in Barry, Illinois. Iowa Cremation is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include her two daughters, Barbara Crawford of Louisville, KY and Rebecca (Toby) Joseph of West Des Moines; two sons, Alan (Rebecca) Crump of Rowley, Richard (Susan) Crump of Anamosa; brother, Richard Kraft of Delaware; also surviving are three grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and husband Albert “Bill” in 2011.

Carol May Kraft was born March 8, 1923 in Quincy, IL the third child of Jacob & Florence (Langebartel) Kraft. Her mother was taken there by horse drawn wagon from a farm near Payson, IL. She grew up milking cows and shucking corn by hand. She enjoyed attending school and went from a one room school house to Quincy High School where she graduated in 1940 4th in a class of 345. She married A.W. “Bill” Crump on September 28, 1947. She had many fond memories growing up including, snow sledding on the hill behind their house and most memorable was the safe return of her brother Richard from WWII after flying 50 missions and receiving three purple hearts. Carol was a 59 year member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, and their Women’s Circle and was an avid bridge player. The most interesting person she ever met was her husband Bill.

Memorial donations may be given in her name to St. Paul Lutheran Church, Camp Courageous, St. Luke’s Hospice or the donor’s charity of choice.
