John Fetters Kutzli

John Fetters Kutzli, 93, of Clinton, Iowa passed away Monday November 10, 2014, at Mercy Living Center South in Clinton, IA.  As were his wishes, he will be cremated.  A private, family celebration of John's life will be scheduled for a later date.

John is survived by his wife Marilyn Kutzli of Clinton, IA; three sons: Rex Kutzli, Eric (Nancy) Kutzli, and Douglas (Sara) Kutzli; three grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his son Steven Jon Kutzli.

John Fetters Kutzli was born March 17, 1921, to Fred and Berta (Fetters) Kutzli in Eldora, Iowa.  He graduated from Miles (Iowa) High School in 1938.  On May 2, 1942, he married Marilyn Schroeder in Kahoka, Missouri.  John served his country with the 358th Army Engineers in the European Theater during World War II. He spent time in England building airstrips and took part in the invasion laying pipeline to the fighting front.  He helped keep the port open at Antwerp Belgium during the Battle of the Bulge, crossed the Rhine with Patton's third army, and worked building an army hospital in Germany at the end of the war.  After being discharged in November of 1945, John worked at  the Savanna Ordinance Depot and farmed. For many years John worked in Clinton at Sears Roebuck in appliance and small engine repair and in maintenance at Nielsen Clearing Company until retiring in 1984. John loved fishing, lapidary, playing the guitar, and searching for fossils. After retiring, John was also a volunteer for the National Park Service, doing historical restoration.  One of John's passions was working with wood.  He built lamps, furniture, picture frames, and made carvings.  Some of his carvings, models of horse drawn machinery, buggies, and wagons can be seen on display in the Jackson County Museum in Maquoketa, Iowa.

Quiet Fisherman's prayer:
"God grant that I may fish until my dying day and when it comes my last cast, I then most humbly pray; when in the Lord's safe landing net I'm peacefully asleep, that in his mercy I'll be judged big enough to keep."

Memorial donations may be made to the family, in John's name, 811 10th St. DeWitt,  Iowa, 52742
