Nelle Josephine Scalf, age 81, of Wellman, Iowa died Sunday, June 22, 2014 at Pioneer Park in Lone Tree.

Memorial service: 10:00 AM Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at the Wellman First Baptist Church.  The family will receive friends from 9:30 until service time.  Inurnment will take place at the Wellman Cemetery.

Nelle was born January 4, 1933 in Moravia, Iowa to Don and Ethel (Hollingsworth) Hayes.  She was married to Calvin Lester Scalf on May 26, 1951 in Wellman.  She was a homemaker for most of her life.  She worked as a medical technician at Parkview Manor of Wellman, and also provided home daycare.

She was a member of the Wellman First Baptist Church, where she was active in the Dorcas Society.  She was also a member of the Red Hat Society.  She loved spending time with her family.

Nelle is survived by three children: Carrie (David) Marshall of Lone Tree; Donna (James) Logsdon of Marion; and Edward (Kris) Scalf of Fenton, Missouri; seven grandchildren: Emily Elliott, Beth Kim, Andy Logsdon, Angela Foye, Alex Logsdon, Olivia Scalf, and Luke Scalf; ten great-grandchildren; and two brothers: Ira “Wade” Hayes of Wellman and Don “Harvey” (Linda) Hayes of Arizona.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 2005; her parents; two sisters: Bess Ross and Jean Yahn; and brother Bruce Hayes.

Memorials have been established to Iowa City Hospice or the Alzheimer’s Association in Nelle’s name.
