Walter Dale Jackson

Walter Dale Jackson (Peck), age 85, of Miles, Iowa, died July 30 at Mill Valley Care Center in Bellevue, Iowa. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 on Saturday, August 2nd at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Preston. Visitations will be held from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Friday, August 1st at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Preston. Burial will be held later in the Miles Cemetery. Walter was born on June 28, 1929, in Green Island, Iowa the son of Ralph and Dorothy (Marburger) Jackson. He attended the Green Island rural school. On April 11, 1950, he was united into marriage to Marie Mary Steines at St. Joseph Catholic church in Bellevue, Iowa. She preceded him in death on December 1, 1978. Walter farmed up until 1979. He then worked for the Clinton Corn Processing Company/ADM in Clinton until his retirement in 1984. Walter had served with the Iowa National Guard from 1948 - 1951. He was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles. Even up to the end, he very much enjoyed the outdoors. In his early years he was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed cutting wood, doing field work and just sitting outside. He also enjoyed bowling but as he aged he spent a lot of time playing cards. Walter is survived by his four daughters, Barbara (Larry) Holdgrafer of Spragueville, Karen (Tom) Holdgrafer of Spragueville, Nancy (Bill) Baumann, of Bellevue and Dorothy (Glen) of Spragueville; 12 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren; a sister, Vernelda Roeder of Spragueville; a brother-in-law, Raymond Steines of Marshalltown and a special friend, Elverda Beck of Maquoketa. He is preceded in death by his wife, Marie; his parents and one sister, Katheryn Beck.
