Kenneth R. Garetson

Kenneth R. Garetson, Jr., 55, of Nichols, Iowa, entered eternal rest on July 16, 2014.  A celebration of life will be held at their home on August 3, 2014, from noon to 3:00pm.  Memorials in memory of Ken may be directed to the Iowa City Hospice or the American Cancer Society.

Ken was born on December 8, 1958, in Oelwein, IA, and married Julie Heims on November 4, 1978.  He is survived by his beloved wife, three children Kenneth III [Emily] of St. Louis, MO, Joshua [Becky] of LeClaire, IA, and Korinthia [Joshua] Hinderaker of Urbandale, IA; eight grandchildren:  Connor, Alyssa, Paige, Grace, Noah, Brooklyn, Ava and Kenneth; his parents Kenneth Sr. and Audrey Garetson of Lamont IA, siblings Kristine [Thomas] McIntee of Tiffin, IA, Kathleen [Jerry] Vorland of Cedar Falls, IA, and Keith Garetson of Renwick, IA.  He was preceded in death by his grandparents Glen & Dorothy Garetson and Elon & Anne DeWitte.  

Ken earned his Bachelor of Arts in Accounting from the University of Northern Iowa.  After proudly earning his CPA designation and publicly practicing accounting, Ken became active in the banking industry, most recently serving as Senior Vice President and Chief Risk Officer for Farmers & Merchants Savings Bank of Lone Tree, IA.  He loved to fish, woodwork, farm, and most importantly, spend time with his family.  He was a member of the Church of Christ, The Oddfellows, Rotary International, Past Treasurer of the Hawkeye Swim Club, and the Kirksville Leadership Institute.
