Claude Robert Fommelt
Claude Robert Frommelt, 92, of Guttenberg, Iowa passed away July 17, 2014 at the Guttenberg Care Center. A celebration of his life will be held Sunday July 27 at St Mary’s Church in Guttenberg, IA. A visitation at the church will start at 11:00 am, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:30 am. A private burial will take place at a later date.
Claude is survived by his wife Claire Frommelt of Guttenberg, IA; children: William (Mary) Frommelt of Guttenberg, IA, James Frommelt of Guttenberg, IA, and Ann (Dan) Bahls of Dubuque, IA; daughter in law Darlene Frommelt of Guttenberg, IA; 6 grandchildren; and 9 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings: Clifford Frommelt and Leonette Duwe; and son Robert Frommelt.
Claude Robert Frommelt was born June 4, 1922 to Chris and Elizabeth (Eilers) Frommelt in Guttenberg, Iowa. He graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1940. On January 15, 1944, he married Claire Kords in Guttenberg. Claude served his country during World War II as a Sergeant in the Air Force. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and the American Legion. Claude managed the American Pearl Button Factory in McGregor, IA for 9 years and Guttenberg for the last five years of operations. He then became a sales representative for Blue Cross Blue Shield, working there for 21 years before retiring. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking and golf, but his favorite pastime was spending time with his family. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
