Robert "Bob" Walker Jewell

Robert (Bob) Walker Jewell, 65, passed away on Tuesday, January 28th at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House after a long and courageous battle with leukemia, lovingly surrounded by his family.  A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Bob was born on October 17, 1948 to Ellen (Endsley) and Allen Jewell in Kinsman, OH.  He proudly served his country in the Vietnam War from 1967 to 1969.  Shortly after, he married the love of his life, Donna Carstensen, in Davenport, IA on November 13, 1971.  The two of them built a beautiful life together that included owning and operating The Jewell Group in Bettendorf.  They were also blessed with two wonderful children that kept Bob busy with their many hobbies.  One of Bob's great passions in life was breeding, raising and showing his beloved quarter horses: Glow, Sydney, Patty, Turbo and Willie.  He was always seen with his "girlfriend," Sadie the German Shepherd, riding along in the front seat of the pick-up truck ready for any adventure she could go on with Bob.  He could also be found snuggled with his family's dogs, Maizy and Princess Sophia, in his recliner while watching a good old western movie or a fast-paced race.  Racing was a big part of his life.  He spent many years with his son racing go-karts, mini-cup cars and sprint cars. Bob truly was a jack of all trades.  He was a mechanic, handy man, pit crew chief, horse groom, stable boy, lawn care specialist, entrepreneur, salesman, coach, chauffeur, teacher, philanthropist and farmer.  He was an avid risk-taker and a straight-talker.  But he performed his roles as a loving husband, father, son and friend most masterfully.   He touched the lives of everyone he came into contact with and cherished every memory he created with his loved ones.  He was everything to his family and will be missed tremendously.

Bob is survived by his wife, Donna of Maysville, and his mother, Ellen of Bettendorf; his daughter, Kari Jewell of Maysville; his sons, Matthew Jewell and girlfriend Shannon of Bettendorf and Blake (Amanda) Collins of Davenport; and his sisters, Kathy Laverenz of Davenport and Jeanne Davis of Indianapolis, IN.

Bob is preceded in death by his father and two brothers-in-law.

Memorials may be made in Bob's name to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
